There are numerous attractions that draw people to the diverse country of Costa Rica, but zip lining through the cloud forest tops the list. Zip lining was my main reason for visiting this country and I must say, my expectations were absolutely exceeded. You must experience this at least once in your life.
Good news for my fellow adventure junkies, Costa Rica is home to the longest zip line in Latin America. This adrenaline rush alone is worth the visit.
Where do you find this zip line you ask? Look no further than in the heart of Monteverde at 100% Adventura.
Their canopy tour offers zip lining across 14 unique stations throughout the jungle, the last one being the record holding line. This line measures at 1590 meters long. That’s 5,216 feet… Nearly a MILE LONG. In fact, we had to buddy up just to make it all the way across. (Proof in the video below)
The first few lines were smaller but got me accustomed to flying through the air. It only went uphill, both literally and figuratively, from there. I couldn’t help but be so amazed by the views and how massive the cloud forest I was flying above was. You truly can’t get that view anywhere else.
Since you’re zip lining through the forest make sure to apply bug spray before you go. Costa Rica has a very unpredictable climate that influenced me to wear a rain jacket and leggings. I would suggest wearing long pants for this tour as you are wearing a harness the entire duration. For my ladies, secure your hair in a low bun. These zip lines go as fast as 60mph and you do not want to risk getting your hair caught on anything.

You are not advised to carry your phone during the tour, as it is likely to drop. In which case you will never see your phone again. Good news, they offer helmets that support GoPro’s and also sell CD’s at the end of the tour. I brought my GoPro along to capture the tour.
The course time was approximately an hour and a half. This is depending on your skill set, of course. Not only are you flying from tree to tree (and towards the end mountain to mountain), you have a bit of a hike between stations. This tour gives you an unique and rare look at the forest both in and above it.
^ See that little person between the trees, that’s me!
If you’re coming to Costa Rica to conquer the world famous zip lines, make sure you book through 100% Adventura. Rates are 50 USD for the canopy tour. I felt this was great value for an experience I will never forget.
So, are you an adrenaline junkie? Would you brave the Costa Rican zip lines?
